  • Early childhood care and education and the importance of teachers' resilience from viewpoint of inclusion
    Drljić, Karmen
By the nature of its purpose, the profession of teaching can be understood as a profession of caring for the full social and learning inclusion of all children. The inclination towards realising ... inclusivity requires the teachers to also take care of themselves and their professional development, which is essentially lifelong. The attention of teachers, whose careers are driven by constant professional development, is directed towards recognising environmental challenges and responding to them accordingly, which is additionally supported by their abilities of critical thinking and active adaptation to circumstances, which are in a constant state of change. Resilience of teachers can in this context be understood as a crucial quality in their response to challenges in the professional environment and activity, based on three key sets of protective factors: personal and professional characteristics, social and contextual support, and creative approaches to challenges. Within the framework of the latter characteristics, we can derive the thesis that the ability to act autonomously with the support of the environment is the building block of the teacher's active response to the limitations set by the environment and thus significantly contributes to the development of (inclusive) pedagogical profession with the aim of achieving the conditions for ensuring the maximum benefit of all children included in early childhood care and education.
