    Researchers have always been interested in families of persons with schizophrenia with regard to their share in the onset and in the course of theillness. Today families of persons with schizophrenia ... are no longer seen asa causal factor, interest is focused primarily on their coping with the mental disorder of their family member. Altered and unusual behaviour of a person with schizophrenia represents a new experience that requires their response and adjustment. The mode of family coping is determined by several factors. Social, cultural and demographic characteristics of everyone involvedplay an important part as well as the characteristics of the illness itself. This article refers to different ways of how a family copies with a family member with schizophrenia.
