  • Transplantacijska imunologija
    Jeras, Matjaž
The field of allogeneic tissue and organ transplantation, since its first early successes dating from the beginning of fifties of the last century, has undergone dramatic progress. The development of ... sophisticated surgical procedures, highly advanced knowledge about the mechanisms of cellular as wellas antibody alloimmune responses and consequently also the more efficient immunosuppression, have taken this field of medicine to the point, when transplantation of almost all tissues and organs has become a routine therapeutic procedure. Within the frame of modern transplantation immunology, that is constantly evolving in parallel with the development of transplantation itself, different procedures are being applied that enable us to: precisely assess the degree of histocompatibility at the level of defined differences in extremely polymorphic molecules pertaining to the major histocompatibility complex as well as minor histocompatibility antigens, between the transplant donor and recipient and to functionally evaluate their alloantigenic potential in vitro; determinate the extent and antigenic specificity of humoral allosensibilisations before and after transplantation; monitor post transplant immune responses as well as the efficiency of immunosuppression used, and finally to introduce different ways of establishing and detecting efficient and long lasting recipient tolerance to donor histocompatibility antigens or respectively to modulate the alloimmune responses prior to and after transplantation.
