  • Surface modification of cotton fabric using nano-sized Ti▫$O_2$▫ colloidal dispersions
    Ojstršek, Alenka ...
The aim of the presented research was to employ diverse colloidal dispersions of nano-sized TiO2 hybrids in different concentration during the exhaustion procedure in order to modify cotton surface. ... All trials were performed on the laboratory apparatus Labomat (Mathis) at a temperature of 60°C for 110 min using liquor ratio of 1:20. Morphological characterization of the coated fibres was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the change of textile whiteness was determined according to CIE formula. In addition, durability/bonding ability of TiO2-hybrids applications was examined after first, fifth and tenth laundering cycles as a function of UV transmittance measurements according to the Australian/New Zealand Standard (AS/NZS 4399:1996). The gained results indicated equal distribution of TiO2 core-shell nanoparticles over the surface of cotton fabric regarding the concentration of colloidal paste and the type of the shell particles. Furthermore, surface modification by nanoparticles brings about an outstanding UV protection functionality even after several washing cycles.
