  • Computers in the teaching of fine arts [Elektronski vir] : everview of research studies on the use of computers in the teaching of fine arts in Slovene primary schools

    Many research studies have been performed and published about the systematic introduction and use of computers in Slovene primary schools. Such studies were first done at the beginning of the 1990's, ... and still continue today. Numerous new findings about the use of contemporary information technology in the teaching of Fine Arts have been acquired through these studies, together with the experience obtained from practical work. The first systematic research study about the influence of the use of computers in teaching Fine Arts on childrenćs creativity was performed in 1996. It was followed by the studies concerning the use of individual computer programs and tools and the search for the content or appropriate tasks which could be performed using computer tools. In practice we studied the influence of the use of computers in the teaching of Fine Arts on the socialization and communicative interaction of the pupils. Some studies were also performed that investigated the possibilities of a meaningful use of computers in regard to the sequence of didactic units and the formation of didactic sets. They provided us with the opinions and the attitudes of the teachers and their pupils towards the use of information technology in the teaching of Fine Arts. Slovene primary schools are well equipped with contemporary information technology and conditions are still improving. Various projects enabled us to establish the possibility of using computers in the teaching of Fine Arts while maintaining quality and creativity, all of which considerably increased with the use of modern input devices (scanners, photo/digital cameras, video cameras). In the future it will also be necessary to make the best use of the great potential of computers by including them into the education process in order to increasethe efficiency of teaching Fine Arts. Only future studies can reveal how well we will succeed.
