  • The media and teaching in kindergarten
    Lepičnik-Vodopivec, Jurka
We live in the time when mass media are an unavoidable reality and we perceive them as the part of modem world' s culture. The mass media include radio, television, computer, books, magazines and ... movies. All of these enable public and organized communication, where the message is trying to reach as many people as possible in a relatively short time span. In the first part of the article we analyze the teaching of young children and media literacy in accordance with Hobbs definition of media literacy. In the second part of the article we analyze didactic standpoint of the productive usage of media in kindergarten, especially children's access to media (written and electronic media at home and in kindergarten), by using a descriptive method of empirical research. The survey covers a sample of parents and educators of preschool children, aged between 3 and 5 years, and enrolled in a kindergarten. We establish that children have good access to books and children's magazine, that all of them have access to television, while the number of children with access to radio, CDs, computer, video or DVD player is smaller.
