  • Nacionalni program presajanja alogenskih krvotvornih matičnih celic in delovanje slovenskega registra prostovoljnih nesorodnih darovalcev krvotvornihmatičnih celic, Slovenija-Donor = National program for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and functioning unrelated vounteer bone marrow donor registry of Slovenia

Background. In the last few decades hematopoetic stem cell (HSC) transplantation has become a succesfull treatment of choice for severe and otherwise mostly uncurable haematological diseases such as ... various types of leukaemias. Conclusions. The HLA identity of donor and patient is basic criteria for a succesfull tranplantation. Therefore the most suitable donor for a given patient is his or her HLA genotypically identical sibling (brotheror sister). But because only about 25% of all patients will be lucky enough to have an HLA matched sibling, the national registries of unrelated volunteer donors have been established to provide an alternative and additional source of HSC. Such registries are members of the super-registry Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide (BMDW) with currently almost 9 million donors. The Slovenian national registry Slovenija-Donor (SD) is a full member of the BMDW, and is currently contributing HLA phenotypes of its 536 members. The functioning of the Slovenian registry is completely transparent and fully harmonized with the national and international allogeneic HSC transplantation programme.
