  • Categorical topology of compact Hausdorff spaces

    The book summarizes results about normal endofunctors on compact spaces, introduced by Shchepin in the late 1970s. Normal functors (or their modifications) comprise, e.g., hyperspace functors, linked ... system functors, superextension functors, probability measure functors. After going through basic properties and relations of normal functors, the authors study monads of such functors and their Kleisli or Eilenberg-Moore categories. The next chapter investigates geometric properties of functors (preservation of finite-dimensional manifolds, of ANR-spaces, of LC▫$^n$▫-spaces, and shape and homotopy properties of functors). The last chapter concerns homeomorphisms of functor-powers and characterizations of various powers (e.g., of power monads). Many sections contain useful exercises.
