    When concrete is subjected to uniaxial compression, a microcrack pattern develops which is getting more and more anisotropic, being oriented in the direction of the loading axis.Microcracks are ... revealed by fluorescence under UV light.To measure automatically the orientations of the microcracks, as digitized on the discrete grid of the analyzer, the Fourier transform was used.Indeed, it is less sensitive to digitisation artefacts than usual roses of direction techniques.Once the microcrack orientation is established, it allows to build up a two dimensional damage model to illustrate the failure process of concrete.
