  • Toward sustainability in art education
    Zupančič, Tomaž, 1962-
The present article emphasises facts, related to sustainable development within the scope of pedagogical work. We are aware of the fact that sustainable development is a necessity for the modern ... civilisation, however, at the same time we can also see some the negative components within the scope of pedagogical sustainable paradigm. We firmly stand against the inconsiderate introduction of some extreme litanies on modern environmental protection in school practice. For instance: nowadays, the extremism of global warming opponents increasingly uses the intimidation strategy. Regardless of our personal opinions, regardless of our beliefs in the catastrophe of environment protection or our faith in environmental scepticism, we as pedagogues are convinced that bringing fear from global catastrophe should not become a part of pedagogical work. Unfortunately, this occurs very often. All possible fears of the modern State of Fear Society (pandemic flu, chemical trails, terrorism, global recessions etc.) are now accompanied with an additional fear. Instead of developing defence mechanisms for fighting fears that are forced on us by the society, we are implanting another fear into young persons' minds in the guise of sustainable development. This article presents how these fears are manifested. In time students will share their views with children in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. We present external signs of fears and a research, conducted among the students. We would also like to warn the readers that we are not in favour of environmental scepticism, neither against sustainable development; however, we stand against inconsiderate repetition of set phrases and inconsiderately assumed ideological litanies. And we stand firmly against everything that makes children neurotic.
