  • The role of interest organisations in the europeanisation of Slovenian policy-making
    Fink-Hafner, Danica
In this article, the role of interest groups (both European and Slovenian) in the process of the Europeanisation of Slovenian policy-making isdescribed in a model created on the basis on interviews ... conducted in Brussels, a 1996 survey of 70 interest groups in Slovenia as well as on a casestudy of the League of Consumers of Slovenia. The two key findings of our research are: firstly, that European networking and co-operation between European and Slovenian interest groups is motivated by the special interests of both clusters of interest groups. Still, the result of this kind of interest group activity seems to be very supportive of the process of Europeanising Slovenian politics. Secondly, in a post-socialist political system where the role of parliament is important (such as in Slovenia), the parliament can become a relatively open arena for the Europeanising role of interest groups. So, even in the event that the executive does not develop consultative politics and is not open to interest groups which are Europeanising, the parliament can still become an important channel for inserting European dimensions and corrections into the policy-making processes via interest group participation therein.
