  • Kako najhitreje odpraviti simptome in pozdraviti ezofagitis? = How to relieve the symptoms and to cure esophagitis effectivelly?
    Ivanuša, Marijan, 1966-
The incidence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) continues to rise in the western part of the world, hand in hand with an increasing incidence of esophageal cancer. However, despite the high ... incidence of the condition, patients rarely seek medical attention. Esophagitis, the most common sequel ofgastroesophageal reflux, has an annual incidence of 1% and a prevalence of 5%. Although we understand the pathophysiological mechanisms of GERD, the etiology of the idiopathic type of the disease has not yet been clarified. Themost common and characteristic symptom of GERD is heartburn. Another commonly experienced symptom is sour or bitter regurgitation. ln addition, GERD symptomatology may include atypical symptoms (caugh, hoarseness, retrosternal pain). Endoscopy may reveal mucosal abnormalities. In the absenceof endoscopic evidence of mucosal abnormalities we speak of an endoscopically negative GERD. ln this case evidence of GERD can be obtained by24-hour pH-metry, manometry and bile reflux measurement, but these tests areto rarely performed. ln patients presenting with a typical clinical pictureof GERD, treatment is started without performing the above tests. Acutetreatment is usually started with a proton pump inhibitor (omeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole) and continued with maintenance therapy using the drug that still maintains remission. Today, omeprazofe is increasingly used for long-term maintenance treatment as well. lt is a standard proton pump inhibitor. Newer proton pump inhibitors do not have important advantages for the patients. Some clinical trials have shown, that lansoprazole can faster relieve the symptoms.
