  • Humani virusi papiloma (HPV) in karcinogeneza = Human papilloma viruses (HPV) and carcinogenesis
    Poljak, Mario, 1965-
Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are etiologically involved in virtually all cervical cancers, and persistent infection with high-risk HPV genotypes appears to be a necessary, although insufficient ... factor for the development ofcervical carcinoma. The mechanisms by which HPVs function in malignant progression appear to be related to the activity of the two HPV oncoproteins, E6 and E7. After integrattion of the HPV genome into human DNA, E6 and E7 formcomplexes and degrade several cell proteins normally involved in controlling cell growth. Of particular interest has been the association of E6with p53 and E7 with pRB, both products of tumors uppressor genes. Expression of E6 and E7 is likely to overcome the regulation of cell proliferation normally mediated by p53 and pRB, allowing uncontrolled growth and providing the potential for malignant transformation.
