  • The role of natural rubber latex gloves and glove powder in the development of occupational contact dermatitis
    Gabrič-Zirkelbach, Maja
Natural rubber latex gloves (NRLG) are indispensable in many occupations. The reactions related to NRLG use can be divided into irritant and allergic contact dermatitis. Irritant contact dermatitis ... (ICD) is a non-allergic skin rash and is the most common skin problem among people who wear gloves for longtime periods. Glove powder (GP) causes the mechanical abrasion of the skinand aggravates the irritation from sweating under the gloves or from (residual) soaps and disinfectants. Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a skin condition caused by a cellular immune response in the body activated by repeated contact with the allergen. The rubber chemicals implicated in ACD include accelerators, anti-oxidants and other chemicals which may be added during the manufacturing process.
