  • Slikovna diagnostika okužbe žilnih vsadkov
    Gasparini, Mladen
Prosthetic graft infection is a serious complication in vascular surgery and can lead to limb loss or death. The incidence of grafts infections is between 1% and 5% in operated patients. The ... diagnosis is made by considering the clinical findings, imaging studies and microbiologic results. Ultrasonografy is usefull primarly in the detection of graft infection on a limb or groin. When the graft is located in the thorax or abdomen, computer tomografy is the most efficacious imaging method. Alternatively, magnetic resonance imaging could be used in cases where small colletion of periprosthetic fluid is suspected. Scintigraphy with labeled leukocytes is a complementary diagnostic tool with high sensitivity but limited by the significant tendency toward false-positive results. Angiography is important in planning the revascularisation after graft excision. Standard treatment of prosthetic vascular graft infection is total graft excision and revascularisation with anextraanatomic bypass.
