Translation flows from Slovenian into other languages have received some attention, but there has been no study comparing translation trends from Slovenian into two or more target languages over a ... longer period of time. This paper partially fills this gap by examining literary translation activity from the peripheral Slovenian language into the two central languages, i.e. German and French. The study focuses on original Slovenian prose for adults and children translated into German and French from 1919 to 2018. Slovenia underwent many changes during this century, and the data collected allow us to observe translation flows for the two language pairs in different periods of history. Although both languages are central, the number of translations into German is three times higher than into French during the observed period, and this asymmetry shows that the German-speaking world is more open to translations from peripheral Slovenian than French due to numerous factors. Finally, most of the translated books were published by foreign publishers, and the comparison of translated authors shows that the literary tastes of the German- and French-speaking worlds are very different when it comes to Slovenian literary prose.
