    Smajli, Ema
Ever since I was a little girl I was always preoccupied with justice. While watching the TV, I saw how the news were always commenting on different wars all around the world but, when Kosovo came up ... the feeling was indescribable. Even though it was a long time ago I still remember children, woman and man vanishing like it were today. After a period of time I started thinking if anyone answers for those lost lives and it made me question my future profession. That was the first time when I felt the desire that justice should be brought to people who deserve it. I never got the chance to speak up about these horrible stories that I heard and saw while I was growing up, so that%s why I decided that this thesis compliments me the most. What continued to heighten my desire to continue working on this thesis was The Nuremberg trials which started between 20 November 1945 and 1 October 1946, where in this set of trial they had to try 24 of the most important political and military leaders of the Third Reign including Adolf Hitler whom, committed suicide before he could go to trial. Following The Nuremberg and Tokyo trials was the ICC know as International Criminal Court which is located in The Hague in Netherland. It was established twenty years ago as the first permanent International Criminal Court by state leaders worldwide. This courts structure contains four organs, the Judicial Divisions, the office of the Prosecutor, the Presidency and the Registry. The second generation of hybrid courts created the ICTY (International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia) and ICTR (International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda). ICTY was established in 1993 by the United Nations and was the first court ever to actually give a voice to those who had terrible experiences. In this court a lot of state leaders were actually suspected of mass crimes and some of them were even tried. If it wasn%t for these hybrid courts, a thousand raped woman, children, man wouldn%t have gotten peace. Back in those days rape was used as a instrument of terror upon these people. Mostly this courts purpose was to try those that were the most responsible for organizing these acts such as murder, rape, torture etc. This court has tried 160 people up until now. Two years later United Nations also formed The International Criminal Tribunal of Rwanda where 93 people were considered guilty for serious violations of the international Humanitarian Law committed in Rwanda in 1994. This court was the first court ever to deliver verdicts in relation to genocide, also it was the first court to define rape in criminal law.
