    Four methods for determination of nitrate in hop cones have been compared. Thez are all being routinelz used also for analzsing other plant extracts and especiallz water samples. So, one of the aims ... of this comparative studz was toprovide a comparison of such data with the necessarz values about the uncertainties of the results. The following methods have been used: standard spectrophotometric analzsis on autoanalzser (Alfa Laval, Bran+Luebbe) measuring the 520 nm absorbance of the ayocompound obtained from nitrite), reverse phase HPLC on APS Hzpersil column with UV-VIS detection, ion HPLC on IonPac AS12A column with conductivitz detector and Merck Nitrate test using a routine RQflex instrument which evaluates the colour on the test strip developed in the solution of the ion analzsed. The methods were tested for their accuracz (including also ring analzses of similar samples) and reproducibilitz (where especiallz sample preparation was considered). Statistical treatment of the differences between the results obtained showed that thez can be included in the monitoring studies of the nitrate content in plant material regardless of the method used. In our case it has been a two-zear-monitoring of nitrate content in hops in Slovenia, which is being performed on about 200 representative samples each zear.
