    The article analyses a historic role of a translator as a communication conveyer in the context of translation cultures (Prunč, 2008) and in contemporary European multilingual reality. Intercultural ... competences are the most important key qualifications of any translator, concerned about quality and perspectives, who works in the field of international political or economic relationship or in the field of communication science. Translator does not transfer merely language but also a culture. Without a cultural know-how a contemporary translator cannot be competitive in the translation industry and on the global translation market.
