  • Urban living labs for socially inclusive and cohesive cities : The stakeholder engagement practices in Ljubljana and Thessaloniki
    Zalokar, Špela, 1992- ...
This paper explores the application of the multi-stakeholder and co-creative approach to foster socially inclusive and cohesive cities, focusing on two case studies from the EU-funded URBANOME ... project—Thessaloniki, Greece, and Ljubljana, Slovenia. The primary research question investigates the methodology, challenges, and lessons learned gained from the employment of Urban Living Labs (ULLs) in the case studies, with special emphasis on stakeholder engagement practices. ULLs serve as collaborative platforms where urban policies and interventions are designed with the Quadruple Helix, engaging stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and citizens. The central objective of the URBANOME project is to enhance urban health, well-being, and liveability of citizens by integrating health considerations into urban policies. This integration is based on a robust foundation of comprehensive evidence regarding environmental health determinants, their spatial distribution within the city and the differential social impact on various population groups, accounting for diverse lifestyles and behaviors. The involvement of diverse stakeholders ensures a holistic understanding of urban needs, challenges and opportunities, contributing to the development of effective and context-specific interventions and policies. By fostering collaborative initiatives that span the Quadruple Helix, this paper contributes to the broader discourse on creating socially inclusive and cohesive cities, promoting urban health and well-being through informed and participatory policy design
