    Background: In the article we wish to present the protocol of the use of regional (epidural, combined and spinal) labor analgesia and our 5-years experience when relieving the labor pain in the ... Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in Postojna in the period between 1st January 2002 and 31st December 2006. Type of research: Retrospective Patients and methods 1585 women, who gave birth in the hospital between 1st January 2002 and 31st December 2006 with the help of epidural (EA), combined spinal epidural (CSE) or spinal analgesia (SA), were included in the research. We compared the percentage of epidural labor analgesia according to the number of deliveries, labor durationand labor outcome, the newborn condition (Apgar) after 1 minute and 5 minutes of life. When monitoring the satisfaction of the women in labor, analog scale (VAS) to evaluate the pain, the need for additional analgesia during the labor and a descriptive evaluation were taken into account. Side effects and complications, general condition of the women in labor (ASA) and the percentage of medical indications forepidural analgesia (EA) were monitored and compared According to the staff working load also the time of beginning of the EA was compared. When possible the results were compared to the results of all labors in the hospital and the labors in all Slovenian maternity hospitals. Results In the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in Postojna in the period between 1st January 2002 and 31st December 2006 1585 women gave birtli with the help of EA. All but one were classified in the ASA1class and ASA2 class. 93,7 to 96,8% of them had epidural labor analgesia on request, for the rest, the reason was a medical indication.
