    Background: Deformations of the hip bones may occur due to improper development of the hip joint. These deformations are called dysplasia and frequently cause secondary arthrosis of the hip joint. ... Operative intervention is used in an attempt to establish a more favourable distribution of stresses in the hip joint and to slow down or prevent the development of hip arthrosis.Various pelvic osteotomies are used for this purpose. X-ray evaluations of the patients hip, as well as biomechanical evaluations of the hip, are important methods for evaluating dysplasia. In this respect, we are primarily interested in the distribution of forces and stresses in the joint. X-ray evaluation is established method for evaluating dysplasia of the hip, while biomechanical evaluation of the hip joint is a younger method. With a clinical testing of the hips the consequences of the hip dysplasia could be evaluated. For clinical evaluation of the hip, various hip scores are often used, but the results are mostly subjective due to the opinion of the patient.X-ray tests of the hip reflect the bone geometry. They are quite specific and precisely defined for a given disease. The biomechanical evaluation of the hip is a less established method, yielding different physical parameters such as the forces and stresses. These physical parametersare, in terms of cause and effect, most closely associated with the pathological processes of the hip joint. Direct measurements of the distribution of radial contact stress in the hip joint have so far been performed on only one person with an implanted hip endoprothesis fitted with ameasuring device. Since this method of measuring stress distribution in the hip is unsuitable for clinical practice, many mathematical models have been designed to evaluate the pressure distribution in the hip.
