  • Das Trans-Netzwerk als interkulturelle Wissenschaftsbrücke in Südosteuropa [Elektronski vir]
    Kučiš, Vlasta
In the past decades, Southeastern European countries or the Balkan countries were isolated politically, economically and scientifically. Nevertheless, due to their geostrategic position they have ... always been a bridge between the East and the West which is also reflected by the specific and rich multicultural and multilingual tradition as well as the intensive EU integration policy. It is a fact that cultural differences make communication with others attractive on the one hand, and difficult, sometimes even impossible, on the other hand. The foundation for dealing with linguistic and cultural differences is trying to understand others and facilitating communication with them. Translators who perceive linguistic diversity as cultural enrichment and spiritual diversity and see respect for the another individual as the supreme principle, take on the active role of a professional bridge builder. In numerous European countries, formal translation training has a relatively long tradition. However, in some Southeastern European countries, translation degree programmes are still in their early stages of development, in set-up phases, non-existent or integrated in the curriculum of foreign languages
