Cardiac arrest is one of the most urgent complications in medicine. Current guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation stili recommend ratio of chest comprssion to ventilation to be 30:2 since ... longer interruptions in chest compression proved to have a deleterious effect on circulation. Amajor advancehas been the use of automated external defibrillators for borth out-of-hospital and in-hospital cardiac arrest. Few drugs are avai\able for resuscitation and their use is not always evidence based, but health care professionals have to be well fami\iar with them regardig the urgency of circumstances in which they are used. Among these drugs we discuss adrenaline (epinephrine), vasopressin, amiodarone, lidocaine, magnesion sulphate, atropine, calcium, sodium bicarbonate, liquids, vasopressors and others. Majorcharacteristics, indications, modes of administration, and adverse effects are discussed.
