  • Influence of feed rate on dynamics of laser welding process
    Govekar, Edvard ...
Dynamics and performance of a laser welding process are influenced by the amount of energy supplied to the processed material. One of the most important parameters which regulates the energy supply ... into the processed material is the feed rate. To investigate the influence of feed rate on process dynamics, experiments with laser welding were performed during which the feed rate was slowly increased from its minimal to its maximal feed rate. Dynamics of the laser welding process were indirectly described by time series of intensity of light emitted by the plasma (ILEP) generated during the process. Using methods of linear and non-linear time series analysis, a dependence of the process dynamics on the feed rate was analyzed and characterized. Several characteristic feed rates were observed at which significant changes in the dynamics occur. For two of the selected feed rates, corresponding to the deep and heat conduction welding respectively, a non-linearity test using redundancy surrogate criterion was performed. In addition, the dimensionality of plasma intensity attractor was analyzed using principal components and correlation integral method. The results of the analysis show that deep welding can be characterized as a nonlinear stochastic, while the heat conduction welding as a linear stochastic process.
