    Osteoarthritis of the knee is a progressive disease that can not be stopped byconservative treatment. High tibial osteotomy slows down the progressive degenerative changes, arrests them or even ... induces reparative changes of the joint surfaces. In the priod 1971 to 1980 61 such operations on 54 patients were performed. The results obtained were good in 44%, fair in 48% and unsatisfactory in 7%. We had 8% of serious complications in our series, but nooperative or postoperative deaths.
