  • Patogene i uvjetnopatogene crijevne bakterije u populacijama smeđeg žohara na brodovima = Pathogenis and conditional-pathogenic intestinal bacteria in the population of brown cockroach on ships
    Agolli, Bashkim ...
The brown cockroach (Blatella germanica L.) is a cosmopolitan species of insects which distinguishes itself with a powerfull biotic potency and an extraordinary adaptibility to changes of the ... life-milleu terms. Thanks to these and other extraordinary features of that sort (euriphagia, cytoplasmatic resistence to infections, aggresivness in conquering the new spaces, refractoriness to insecticides), the brown cockroach has already become the most often or almost the only infestant of the contemporary urban integrity, especially navigable objects. Looking from the hygienical aspect, cockroaches are not only harmless molesters and mischief-doers, but at the time they are also potential reservoirs of many pathogenic micro-organisms of human and extra-human origin. The results of this treatise confirm that a great deal. Examining the micro-flora of the brown cockroach by qualitative and quantitative micro-biological methods, the authors established high values of bacterial concentations in the integral mass and the eliminated insect organs. Escherichia coli of non-faecal origin, Proteus vulgaris and enterobacter aerogenes have shown themselves as dominant sorts of enterobacteria, and Streptococcus faecalis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa of other micro-organisms. Generally, gram-negative micro-organisms prevailed, and among them the sorts which don`t pull down the lactose and in totality show a limited fermentation activity. The authors consider as a very significant fact that from even 7% of the examined specimens of cockroaches, pathogenic enterobacteria were isolated, and that were one of each sort of Shigella flexneri 6, Salmonella thyphimurium, S. thompson, S. reading, S. enteritidis and S. heidelberg, and 11 salmonella sorts which couldn`t be serologically identified (they didn`t belong to groups A-E). In the end the conclusion was made that the brown cockroach is a potential secondary reservoir of pathogenic enterobacteria, and that it plays a significant role in their maintainance, distribution and spreading in the nature. High infestation of ship rooms with cockroaches, in authors` opinion, represents a real danger to the health of the shipped men.
