    The paper tries to achieve two goals: first it construes a theoretical framework for the differentiation of different forms of otherness, of the strange and foreign by recurring to the theories of ... radical constructivism (S.J. Schmidt), the phenomenology of the other and the foreign (Bernhard Waldenfels) and psychoanalytical reflections of Julia Kristeva. Secondly it attempts to find ways of overcoming, diminishing and making visible the blind and white spots of inter- and cross-cultural communication by taking full advantage of three positions, three spaces, the speaker/author is talking from. The first is the position of the scientific "observer of the observer", the observer of the second order, the second the one of somebody belonging to two or more cultures or playing a role as an intermediary between them, the third one is occupied by a specific understanding of the social function, literature/art is fulfilling as means of revealing patterns, mechanisms and attitudes. All three viewpoints, if considered from the angle of the perception of the other/Other, tend by definition to shed light on the constructive nature of cultural phenomena, their biased origin and thus enhance self-awareness as much as outside knowledge.
