  • Does ESP method(ology) exist?

    The purpose of this article is to clarify the terms "method" and "methodology"in relation to ESP. The term methodology is frequently confused with the word method, which is in its original meaning ... related to the know-howand thus distinct from the know-what, i.e. syllabus design. However, anew organization and refolmulation of concepts after the break-away of the method in the 1970s resulted in the link between the know-what and the know-how, thus forming a new concept, i.e. methodology. ESP methodology is clearly the case where the know-how and the know-how are strongly related (the know-how is based on the learner and learning needs). A comparative studyof some teacher training courses in Europe supports and strenghtens this relation.
