    Koželj, Miran ...
The purpose of the present study was to compare the autcome of the acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP) and the number and nature of operations. It was a prospective trial which lasted from 1992 to ... october 1995. Acute necrotizing pancreatitis was classified according to Atlanta consensus. 33 patients were included and were treated surgically and in intensive care unit (ICU). There were 20 male patients and 13 female patients with an average age of 53 years (range 27-47) First operation was performed on the average 5 days after the onset of symptoms (range 3-11 days). 14 patients died (42.4%). Average hospital stay in survivals was 19 days (range 3-72). Average hospital stay in patients who died was 36 days and average stay in ICU unit was 32 days (range 1-80). Analysing the results of presented group we may state thet the severe form of ANP is from onset on very malignant disease where the mortality could not be decreased by different surgical approaches neither by any other form of contemporary medical treatment.
