    In spite of the difficulty of interpreting Kant's various statements on a religious motivation of moral practises in a consistent way, two genial motivating forces can be reconstructed. On the one ... hand, the basic motive to act out of respect for the moral law is, in his conviction, strengthened by recognizing moral duties as God's commandments, on the other hand, it finds its necessary complement in the hope that God will enable humans to achieve the highest good.
