  • Vloga radioterapije pri zdravljenju pljučnega raka = The role of radiotherapy in lung cancer treatment

    Background. Radiation is the most common specific method of lung cancer treatment. In the selection of patients, we have to consider the actual possibilities for radiation: the capacities of ... radiation and planning machines, and bed facilities for in-patients. The article is concerned for the role of radiotherapy in the following situations: radical radiation with curative intent for early stage disease, adjuvant mediastinal irradiation for completely resected tumors, radiation for known residual disease after surgical resection, preoperative radiation, prophylactic cranial radiation, radiation of locally advanced unresectable tumors, combination treatment with radiation and chemotherapy, and radiation with palliative intent in patients with metastases. Conclusions. In each of these cases the situation in the world and at the Institute of oncology Ljubljana is compared. Finally, the analysis of one-year turnover of lung cancer patients admitted in 1988 is presented.
