  • Termografija i njezina primjena u dijabetesu = Thermography and its use in diabetes

Thermography is a method of portraying the infrared radiation emanated by a heated body. Thermographic diagnosis is based on a comparison between the temperature distribution changes in the observed ... part of the body and the normal thermographic picture, whereby particular attention is paid to changes in the symmetry of this distribution. If it is assumed that skin temperature is an indicator of tissue perfusion, and indirectly also of local metabolism, the following two applications of thermography as a diagnostic method may be considered: 1. Pathologic processes characterized by abnormal heat production by certain tissue (e.g. tumours, inflammations, etc.), and 2. pathologic conditions characterized by an abnormal blood flow, either enhanced or reduced. Micro- and macrocirculatory changes in diabetic patients may lead to thermodistribution alterations in the distal parts of the extremities, and produce a symmetrical "amputational" or asymmetrical thermogramm. The first form of pathological thermogram indicates changes in microcirculation, whereas the second form points to the presence of obliterative arteriopathy. Thermography has proved suitable for the evaluationof the blood flow through a region, since it enables a dynamic follow-up of changes occuring in thermodistribution. The method has also proved useful the evaluation of the postoperative condition of patients with peripheral obliterative arteriopathy, as it provides a simple and immediate insinght into the condition of peripheral circulation.
