  • Medjezikovna razmerja in vezljivost
    Grošelj, Robert, 1978-
The article presents an analysis of the relationship between valency (with a special emphasis on complements and their combinations) and interlinguistic relations. The interaction between these two ... phenomena is observed on the basis of different complements of the verba cogitandi (the reflexes of Proto-Slavic *mysliti, *mŽněti, *měniti and *uměti, *věděti, *znati) in the history of selected South Slavic languages (Old Church Slavonic, Slovenian, Croatian and Serbian). The article focuses in particular on two problem areas:(1) in the case of the direct influence of interlinguistic relations on the establishment of valency, it analyses the supposedly borrowed complements or complements motivated by a foreign linguistic model (the supposed Greek, Balkan, Romance, German or foreign Slavic elements), it describes their functioning and development within a particular language; (2) in the case of the indirect influence of interlinguistic relation on the valency change, it describes an interesting substitution of the complement odSgen with the semantic role of thematic content by a Žmore SlavicŽ complement oSloc in the literary Croatian and Slovenian languages in the second half of the 19th c. The change was probably a result of standardisation processes in the mid-19th c. that led to the formation of a common Serbo-Croatian literary language and of a uniform Slovenian literary language. The article demonstrates that valency complements - within a syntactic system of a particular language - notonly give evidence of various intralinguistic processes, but also help to reveal complex historical socio-cultural and socio-psycological language dimensions and factors, including interlinguistic relations.
