  • Public service is best when people do not talk about It [Elektronski vir]

    Citizens interactions are important in the frame of open governments. If the latter use open structures and open processes to foster (technical) collaboration, citizens' well-being can be more ... positive by seeing what citizens (do not) publicly write. This paper tries to parallel the well-being and quality of life (the older name is public value or solidarity) with public good inside and outside of public services. This connection can be achieved when people debate and governments listen about diverse alternatives. This would be a condition when the latter basically do not apply the basic (otherwise available) public services, and the former similarly do not use services when they are the most at hand to them. To test this connection the Google Trends application was used. Trends show that people do not write about the effective, efficient, legal and ethical things, so a temporary conclusion needed for further investigation is that government's successfulness on a certain field is present when people do not talk (on a large scale) about matters or topics from this field. Governments should, therefore, listen or read what people say or write.
