  • Notch effect on fatigue strength of 51CrV4Mo spring steel [Elektronski vir]
Šuštaršič, Borivoj ; Senčič, Bojan ; Arzenšek, Boris
Standardized and technological testing of fatigue strength of spring steels is a complex and time consuming, and therefore an expensive task. Determination of Woehler (S-N) curves with a resonant ... pulsator is relatively fast and simple. However, in our case, the test can be performed on simple standard Charpy V-notched samples. Therefore, if we want to obtain an appropriate comparison with the results of technological tests on real springs, it is necessary to consider the notch effect, since steel springs are made of high-quality steel with a fine smooth (sand/steel blasted) surface without microstructure and surface defects. In the present contribution, determination of fatigue strength with a resonant pulsator of spring steel 51CrV4Mo will be presented. The notch effect, the influence of microstructure and surface quality will also be discussed.
