  • Multiscale characteristics of bubble flow in simple and complex geometries
    Žun, Iztok
The essence of all multiphase flows is in interfacial area generation that bounds different phases and in the underlying processes of interfacial break up and coalescence. While such flow could reach ... a steady behavior, well controlled spatio-temporal variation is often the key in many high tech applications. The recent trend in such applications has been to emphasize computational methods based on multiscale modeling. The five-phase approach that we have followed in bubbly flow studies for many years allows us to build up knowledge in a logical order and facilitates prioritization of the large number of possible queries. Three examples are given in the paper: turbulent bubbly flow in a vertical pipe, forced mixing in an aerated vessel and two-phase flow in a trickle bed reactor.
