  • The influence of polypropylene fibre washing and dry cleaning on the ageing tendency in natural environment
Čunko, Ružica ; Pezelj, Emira ; Andrassy, Maja
The influence of prior washing and dry cleaning on resistance to ageing of polypropylene fibres exposed to weather influences in rural environments has been investigated. The fibres tested contain ... the usual amount of UV-stabilisers, added during the process of spinning. The changes in stereoregularity of the macromolecules are observed by determinig the isotacticity index, and the depletion of the fibre performance by meaasuring the rupture force and the resistence of the fibre to torsion. It has been established that washing and dry cleaning increase the ageing tendency of the fibre in a natural environment. Ageing can be seen in the decrease of the isotacticity index and, above all, in the loss of fibre performance. A significant increase of fibre brittleness has been observed.
