  • The police and the public: confidence building? : Selected findings from the international crime (victimization) survey in Ljubljana (Slovenia) 1992-1997
    Pavlović, Zoran, 1955-
Results from the two sweeps of ICV survey in Slovenia indicate that property crime displays certain stability while violent forms (including contact property crime) are on rise. Reporting to the ... police has diminished regarding property crime but has improved regarding contact crime. Fear of crime in cities is on rise; visibility of the police and assessment of its performance has deteriorated. The police performance assessment is influenced mostly by the visibility of patrols and by feeling of safety in the community. Generally, about 55% of this general population are satisfied with the police work and about 50% of victims of crime. It is suggested that more attention has to be devoted to conventional crime problems experienced by the population (primarily in the cities) to community policing, to work with crime victims and the media image.
