  • Dynamic finite-element analysis of geometrically exact three-dimensional beams based on strain measures [Elektronski vir]
Češarek, Peter ; Saje, Miran ; Zupan, Dejan, mehanik
This paper presents a new finite-element formulation for dynamic analysis of flexible multi-body systems composed of three-dimensional beams. The formulation is based on the geometrically exact ... three-dimensional beam theory in which the strain vectors are the only unknown functions of the arc-length parameter. The non-linearity of spatial rotations affects considerably both the finite element discretization of the beam and the time-integration techniques. The classical Newmark time integration scheme extended to the SO(3) group is used and properly adopted to the strain-based formulation. The update procedure needed in the iteration process is discussed in detail. The exact linearization of the governing equations is also presented. The performance of the formulation is demonstrated with numerical examples.
