  • Prevajanje nedoločnika iz francoščine v slovenščino v časopisnih besedilih [Elektronski vir] : magistrsko delo
    Horvat, Julija
The thesis deals with translating the infinitives and infinitival clauses from French to Slovene, namely examples and their translations from newspaper articles included in the Le Monde diplomatique ... corpus which is available online thanks to the multilingual corpus project SPOOK. In French, the infinitive is often used for instance instead of subordinate clauses. In Slovene, the use is less frequent. Moreover, in some cases, the infinitive is theoretically impossible in Slovene. While we could expect equivalent phrases with infinitives used after modal verbs, the same was not possible with the French infinitives replacing adverbial clauses. The results of the analysis confirmed that there is a connection between the role of the infinitive in French and its translation into Slovene. When the infinitive had the role of a direct object complement (without preposition), the most frequent translation strategy was infinitive. The conjugated verb form in subordinate clauses, on the other hand, was the main translation strategy in the cases of adverbial clauses transformed into infinitives. The third translation strategy was nominalisation. Lastly, we recorded several possibilities of translating infinitives used stylistically.
