    The topic of my master's thesis is pluralia tantum in German and Slovene and equivalences in the mentioned languages. The majority of German grammar books divide pluralia tantum according to their ... semantic meaning in eight subgroups: financial economy, geographical proper nouns (countries, mountains and groups of islands), groups of people, diseases, collective nous in trading, English names for clothes, periods and occurrences, and other. Typically, this type of nouns appear only in plural. However, there are many examples where a plurale tantum also has a singular variant. The first part of the thesis comprises of the theory of the noun: its grammatical and semantic features in both languages. It continues with the grammatical number of the noun. It concludes with a list of pluralia tantum and includes explanations of special examples of this type of nouns in German and Slovene. The second part of the thesis is based on the analysis of equivalences of pluralia tantum in both languages. The equivalences are arranged in a table according to their semantic meaning and marked with grey. The analysis of the found equivalences is presented in numerical graphs. Finally, the results of my analysis are discussed.
