  • Old course - refreshed approach: are we doing any better?

    In this paper we present our reflections to the first year since introducing integrated electronic communication and content delivery system to our 'User Software' course. The course is taught in the ... first year of the three-year program in Computer Engineering. The main focus of the course are practical exercises (45 hours), combined with 15 hours of lectures. Due to large number of enrolled students and various levels of their preexisting knowledge this course has been extremely demanding for assistants and demonstrators during the past few years. To streamline the delivery of exercise instruction and grading of the student work we have introduced the integrated learning system, which had been originally developed to support exercises in programming. This in-house developed tool proved to be extremely useful cours administration, but its adoption has been a challenging task for all involved asistants. Finally, the course has actually been transformed from the traditional course with instructor led exercises to a hybrid traditional & distance learning course with all the benefits of both approaches.
