  • Survey of the evolutionary computation and its application in manufacturing systems
Brezočnik, Miran ; Kovačič, Miha, 1974-
The evolutionary computation is a common name for the optimisation methods imitating Darwinian findings about evolution of the biological species and the survival of the fittest organisms. These ... methods are also referred to as genetic methods. The common characteristic of the evolutionary computation is that the optimum or near optimum solution of the problem is formed gradually, from the generation to generation, similarly as the nature acts during the improvement and evolution of biological systems. In the last decade the use of evolutionary computation has become widespread. This is due to the fact that many systems are too complex to be successfully optimised by the use of conventional deterministic algorithms. In the paper the survey of the evolutionary computation methods is given. The focus is particularly on the genetic algorithm and genetic programming. In addition, practical examples of the use of genetic programming method in manufacturing systems are presented.
