    Communicative language competence is regarded as the main objective in modern foreign language classes. In order to reach this objective it is indispensible to transmit knowledge and skills in the ... field of pronunciation. Since textbooks can still be understood as a central medium of instruction, they should also include materials for developing phonological and phonetic competences. In this thesis we have therefore investigated how chosen textbooks of German as a foreign language deal with the topic of %pronunciation% and to what extent are the materials on offer relevant considering their usage in the Slovenian speaking area. The discussion of theoretical aspects includes a presentation of the sound system of German standard pronunciation as well as % within the context of contrastive phonetics % a presentation of the Slovenian system and, furthermore, a depiction of transmission of pronunciation knowledge from a methodological-didactic perspective. The empirical part contains the comments and analytical findings of 13 textbooks of German as a foreign language that are authorized to be used at Slovenian grammar schools on A1 level. Regarding their treatment of the topic of %pronunciation%, great differences in quantity and quality can be detected: none of the analyzed textbooks are recommendable without restrictions and textbooks that have been adapted or especially created for Slovenian native speakers hold great unused potential.
