  • Oxide layer formation on high carbon steel surface before tribological testing
Hren, Denis ; Mandrino, Djordje, dr. fizike, 1964-2021 ; Jenko, Monika, metalurginja
The case study for evaluation of naturally occurring oxide layer on high carbon (č 1.0 at.% C) martensitic steel after machining is presented. Ball bearing AISI 52100 high carbon steel specimens were ... polished for use in tribological experiments. Since chemical reactivity of steel surface is governed by oxide layer formed on it, this naturally occurring oxide layer was studied into detail. Two chemical transitions of oleic acid have been detected by FTIR Microspectroscopy suggesting at least two different randomly distributed iron oxides - iron oxide facets formed at the surface of high carbon martensitic steel AISI 52100.
