    Knowing the potential flood damage is very important factor when making decisions on flood protection measures. For flood damage assessment various models have already been developed but mostly they ... are suitable for the defined area due to its specific properties. For the purposes of potential flood damage assessment in Croatia we have developed our own methodology based on CORINE land cover data, census results and goods value. Methodology has been divided on seven types: urban areas, industrial and commercial areas, infrastructure, agriculture areas, permanent plantations, green areas and other areas. For each of those types we have defined a depth-damage curve, its equations and a market value of the goods. All the data are connected in a model. The model NACER (Settlements & Corine Entity Result - Naselja & Corine Entitetski Rezultat) operates in programme MapWindow and gives an estimate of the direct flood damage on the macro-meso level. The flood damage assessment was performed with the NACER model for the whole settlement Gunja. The highest percent of the damage was caused in the urban areas regardless to the water depth.
