  • Simulation of cutting forces in ball-end milling with neural networks
    Milfelner, Matjaž ; Župerl, Uroš
The paper presents the system for simulation of the cutting process (SCP) on the model of the ball-end milling process. The system is based on on artificial methods, computer programme, theoretic ... knowledge of technical processes, machining and tests performed. The system for simulation of the cutting process combines the technological data base, the empirical and experimental model and the data base SPO. The experimental model contains a collection of variables of the cutting process by means of sensors and transformation of those data into numerical values. The empirical model is based on the neural networks which predicts the cutting forces. For some materials, the simulation system can previously show all the important cutting process variables which will later actually appear in the machining process itself. The data obtained from the data base SPO, are a basis for the development of the tool designing model and of the model of optimization of the machining process-cutting parameters. the system for simulation of milling of steels can be extended to machining different materials and to other cutting techniques such as conventional turning, drilling, grinding and high speed milling and turning.
