    Theoretical background: We are obliged to provide injured or sick students with first aid and access to emergency medical assistance. Accidents frequently show that teachers are not qualified to take ... proper action. A student in danger requires immediate recognition of the state and quick action. However, teachers require knowledge that is constantly updated in order to provide students in emergency situations with help. Method: The research was conducted among teachers at three primary schools in Slovenian Carinthia. Quantitative method was applied in the research and primary data was acquired through a survey. The data acquired was processed and analyzed in Microsoft Office Excel and research findings were interpreted. Results: It is found that as many as 71% of teachers have provided first aid to students but have taken actions in emergency situations in very different ways. Only 57% of teachers believe that their school has an action plan for emergency situations. 65% of teachers are aware that they lack knowledge and skills for appropriate action in emergencies. Teachers have the least training in basic resuscitation, seizure first aid and use of adrenaline injections. 67% of teachers did not have first aid training in the past school year and most (95%) want training. Discussion: In addition to providing adequate first-aid materials and first-aid equipment, the competence of teachers is key to ensure timely and proper response to students' emergency situations. Most teachers do not have the skills to provide first aid to students, so they want additional first aid training. We suggest that a training program for teachers be developed in cooperation with the Carinthia Health Rescue Center.
