  • Behaviour of closed-cell foams under impact

    Computational modelling of cellular materials has been well established in recent years. However, the study of different filler effects inside the pores of cellular materials subjected to impact ... conditions have not been properly addressed yet. This paper proposes new computational models of cellular structures that account for the effects of the fluid filler inside the pores. The behaviour of models under impact loading has been analysed with the LS-DYNA code within the framework of FEM. Computational simulations show the expected strong effects of fillers on the stiffness and energy absorption of cellular structures. The developed computational models provide grounds for optimization of cellular structure geometry and filler to fulfill different application requirements, e.g. crash absorbers.
